Hillside Saint Vérand is a village of character with remarkable architectural heritage. It is the southernmost Maconnais village, on the frontier with the Beaujolais region. Veran was the name of a bishop of Cavaillon. The 'd was added on in 18th century through administrative error. This mistake was rectified in 1971 when the AOC was created.
